SAN FRANCISCO -- July 2, 2012 -- Meraki, the leader in Cloud Managed Networking, today announced that the Palo Alto Unified School District has selected Meraki's MR cloud-managed wireless access points (APs) to provide enterprise-class WiFi to 11,000 students, faculty and staff.  Palo Alto Unified will deploy over 600 APs covering 18 sites, including elementary, middle, and high schools, the district office, and other facilities.

Meraki’s wireless APs are centrally managed from the cloud, providing Palo Alto Unified with network-wide visibility and control, without the cost or complexity of WiFi controller appliances. Moreover, Meraki’s solution integrates features like built-in mobile device management, layer 7 application traffic shaping, and support for high-density classroom environments. Along with Palo Alto Unified, over 1,000 schools across North America have deployed Meraki solutions.

Palo Alto selected Meraki over traditional solutions from Cisco and Aruba after a thorough evaluation and competitive bidding process. Palo Alto’s deployment will consist of Meraki’s workhorse MR16 access points, with dual radio technology capable of 600 Mbps radio rates, and flagship MR24 access points, with 900 Mbps capacity for high density areas. All APs are centrally managed via Meraki’s award-winning cloud-based dashboard, which provides superior ease of use and allows for large-scale deployments with minimal overhead.

"The proliferation of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ - or BYOD - in the classroom, along with the explosion of video and cloud applications, is causing schools to reconsider their network architecture. Meraki is built from the ground up to make these dynamic new classroom environments simply work,” said Kiren Sekar, VP of Marketing at Meraki. “We’re thrilled to work with Palo Alto Unified to enable a new generation of educational technology".
